THE BEATLES

The Beatles were an English rock band consisted of John Lennon (rhythm guitar, vocals), Paul McCartney (bass guitar, vocals), George Harrison (lead guitar, vocals) and Ringo Starr (drums, vocals). It formed in Liverpool in 1960, but at first the bass was Stuart Sutcliffe and the drums Pete Best, Stuart left the band in 1961 and Pete was replaced in 1962. The group built their reputation in Liverpool and Hamburg clubs. Lately they turned in one of the most commercially successful in the history of popular music.
They leave their Cavern Club and within months they take the ascendancy in the British pop world, and start to live the life of Riley in London. They played the Palladium, the Royal Albert Hall, The Royal Variety Show, sing Moonlight Bay with Morecombe and Wise, give a spare hit to the Rolling Stones, played hundreds of concerts in Britain, record I Want to Hold Your Hand (their 4th British number one in a year) and, as if in a dream – while their conquering Paris – the record goes to Number One in America three weeks before the Ed Sullivan Show in New York. In 1962 they were the four most famous and musical men on earth, the best dressed and on a good day the most captivating people anyone can remember. The nature of their enormous popularity, which first emerged as the "Beatlemania", transformed as their songwriting grew in sophistication. The group came to be perceived as the embodiment of progressive ideals, seeing their influence extend into the social and cultural revolutions of the 1960s.
They were very versatile, they started with rock and roll and then worked in many genres from pop ballads to psychedelic rock, often incorporating classical and other elements, they always wanted to innovate. The band received influences of Elvis Presley, Little Richard and Chuck Berry. During their residency at the Star Club, at the same time that Richard, they acquired his technique for performing songs. Of Presley, John Lennon said  "Nothing really affected me until I heard Elvis. If there hadn't been Elvis, there would not have been The Beatles". They receive so much influences but this are the earliest.

Each then found success in an independent musical career. John got married with Yoko and was murdered in 1980 outside his home in New York City. Paul married Linda and remains active. George settled into his spiritual space and expressed himself writing classic songs, he died of cancer in 2001. Ringo was now writing his own numbers and was widely acknowledged as a supreme drummer and a very good actor.
Four decades after their break-up, The Beatles' music continues to be popular. The Beatles have had more number one albums on the UK charts, and held down the top spot longer, than any other musical act. According to RIAA certifications, they have sold more albums in the United States than any other artist.
